Development Officer, Membership & individual Giving

About the position Reporting to the Head of Development, the Development Officer, Membership & Individual Giving is responsible for developing and implementing strategies designed to promote philanthropy in support of the McNay. Accountable for meeting annual revenue goals for current and prospective donors who contribute less than $25,000 total annually.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies, cultivates, and solicits philanthropic support by developing and maintaining relationships with individuals, businesses, educational institutions, and family foundations to secure monetary gifts and increase memberships.
  • Collaborates with the Head of Development on an individual giving and membership strategy as part of the organization’s overall fundraising priorities to meet quarterly/annual revenue goals.
  • Responsible for a portfolio of 150-200 prospects, overseeing cultivation and stewardship of targeted prospects for unrestricted annual gifts ranging from $5,000-$24,999. This includes but is not limited to membership, exhibition and event sponsorship, and restricted gifts including endowments and capital campaigns.
  • Assists in developing and implementing the museum’s Planned Giving program.
  • Provides timely fundraising, donor, and portfolio reports as requested, collaborating with Database Administrator as necessary.
  • Responsible for the oversight and implementation of the Membership and Individual Giving department budget.
  • In collaboration with the Head of Development and with assistance from the Membership & Annual Giving Manager, reviews and revises membership program benefits and pricing annually to ensure program meets revenue goals and is competitive with other like organizations.
  • In collaboration with Head of Development, responsible for setting quarterly goals for membership to help meet overall revenue targets.
  • Directly supervises Membership & Individual Giving Manager, assigning and overseeing completion of tasks that are vital to effective, efficient administration of membership and individual giving strategies to meet revenue targets.
  • Directly supervises Database Administrator, providing directions and overseeing completion of all assigned tasks.
  • Responsible for overseeing the Museum’s Visionary Member Circle ($5,000-$10,000) and the Patron Member Circle ($1,000-$2,500), including leading cultivation and stewardship, implementing member events, and driving renewals and acquisition.
  • Collaborates with Development Officer, Special Events to ensure offered member benefits are included in and executed as part of events to which members are invited / included.
  • Collaborates with Communications & Marketing department to ensure all membership and individual giving-related collateral and public-facing materials align with brand standards and include effective messaging.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • At least three to five years’ experience in non-profit development work, preferably with an arts organization.
  • At least three to five years of fundraising experience with progressive responsibilities including supervising direct reports in a collaborative, professional environment.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Interpersonal skills of utmost importance.
  • Commitment to high professional ethical standards and a diverse workplace.
  • Candidate should be highly organized and able to function well under pressure.
  • Deep knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, mail merge, etc.)
  • Must be flexible as to work hours; evening and/or weekend hours are frequently required.
  • Knowledge of tax and other compliance implications of non-profit status.
  • Knowledge of development/fundraising concepts and appropriate solicitation techniques.
  • Knowledge of best practices of planned giving vehicles and how to speak with prospective donors about estate planning.
  • Marketing and presentation skills.
  • Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Altru preferred.
