Sys Admin Windows/UNIX (RHEL) Main Sail LLC is seeking a System Administrator to support infrastructure and environments for S/4HANA systems. The Windows / UNIX System Administrator (RHEL) leads the administration, maintenance, and optimization of the organization's server infrastructure, spanning Microsoft Windows Server and UNIX/Linux environments, with a focus on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). Works with application owners, security teams, and developers to ensure the stability, integrity, and security of the operating systems that underpin business applications. Designs, installs, configures, and maintains server environments, providing a reliable and performant foundation for the enterprise. Leads the ongoing operational support, performance tuning, and lifecycle management of the server ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

The Windows / UNIX System Administrator is responsible for leading complex system administration, troubleshooting, and security hardening. Responsibilities include

  • Lead the installation, configuration, maintenance, and support of Windows Server and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) operating systems across physical, virtual, and cloud environments.
  • Provide expert-level support and troubleshooting to resolve system-level issues, performance bottlenecks, and service outages in a timely manner.
  • Oversee a regular cadence of system patching, security hardening, and vulnerability remediation across the server fleet to comply with security policies and best practices.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including network engineers, database administrators, and application teams, to ensure seamless integration and operation of enterprise services.
  • Foster a culture of automation and efficiency by developing and maintaining scripts (e.g., PowerShell, Bash) and leveraging configuration management tools to automate routine administrative tasks.
  • Monitor and report on system health, performance, and capacity, proactively identifying trends and potential issues before they impact services.
  • Ensure adherence to backup, restore, and disaster recovery procedures, performing regular tests to guarantee data integrity and availability.
  • Facilitate communication regarding system maintenance, planned outages, and change management activities to minimize disruption to business operations.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior administrators, promoting skill growth in server management and troubleshooting best practices.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and best practices in system administration, virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V), and cloud infrastructure (Azure, AWS) to drive continuous improvement.

Basic Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in a System Administrator role, with deep technical knowledge of both Windows Server and UNIX/Linux operating systems, specifically Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
  • Proven ability to manage, secure, and troubleshoot complex, heterogeneous server environments at scale.
  • In-depth knowledge of system administration best practices, including patching, security hardening, monitoring, and disaster recovery.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with technical teams and business stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell (for Windows) and Bash/Shell (for Linux) to automate tasks.
  • Ability to align infrastructure management activities with broader business objectives like system uptime, performance, and security compliance.
  • Experience in mentoring junior team members and serving as a technical escalation point.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement by optimizing system performance and automating administrative processes.
  • Hands-on experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V) and familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure).

Federal-Specific Requirements

  • Security Awareness: Understanding of the importance of data privacy and "Least Privilege" access in a federal environment.
