Position Overview The Staff Pathologist plays a critical role in Exact Sciences’ precision oncology mission by providing expert histopathologic evaluation of breast and colon cancer specimens that support the Oncotype DX ® genomic testing portfolio. In this role, the Staff Pathologist reviews and annotates histologic slides from formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tumor tissue to confirm tumor characteristics and guide downstream molecular analyses used to generate clinically actionable Recurrence Scores that inform treatment decisions. The Staff Pathologist operates within a CAP-accredited, CLIA-certified high-complexity clinical laboratory and collaborates closely with pathology, laboratory operations, bioinformatics, and clinical teams to ensure the highest standards of quality and scientific rigor. Beyond case review, the Staff Pathologist contributes to the continuous improvement of pathology workflows and laboratory processes while representing Exact Sciences within the broader pathology community through engagement in national meetings, professional societies, and committee service. This position supports a collaborative pathology team and requires on-site presence one day per week at the Redwood City, California laboratory. Essential Duties include but are not limited to the following: Provides diagnostic pathology expertise through the review and interpretation of laboratory data and tissue specimens in accordance with clinical, regulatory, and quality standards. Provides pathology professional services to support pathology related questions from stakeholders; including, but not limited to, Medical Affairs, Customer Care, pathologists, oncologists, laboratories, and other clinical providers. Models positive relationships with key internal collaborators through regular connections and participation in periodic meetings with teams like Histology, Lab Operations, Customer Service, Medical Affairs, Accessioning and Information Technology to ensure high quality and efficient operations. Understands Exact Sciences’ Laboratory Management requirements, which are informed by Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) and College of American Pathologists (CAP) regulations. Develop, improve, and support clinical and business processes in the Clinical Pathology function. Participate in the development, optimization, and implementation of new procedures for pathology and histology function. Develops professional relationships, and attends and represents Exact Sciences at pathology and laboratory medicine meetings. Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform keyboarding/mousing for approximately 80% of a typical working day. Ability to lift, carry, push or pull up to 10 pounds within the typical working day.

Minimum Qualifications

Doctor of Medicine (M.D.). Board-certified in Anatomical and Clinical Pathology. Completion of a Surgical Pathology and/or Cytology Fellowship. 3+ years of clinical practice experience. Demonstrated ability to perform diagnostic surgical pathology skills. Demonstrated ability to provide a strong patient-centric and customer service orientation. Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship. Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

California License to practice medicine. Subspecialty training in breast or molecular pathology in a prior industry. #LI-JR1 Salary Range: $233,000.00 - $350,000.00 The annual base salary shown is for this position located in US - CA - Redwood City on a full-time basis. In addition, this position is bonus eligible.
