About arenaflex – Pioneering the Future of Omnichannel Delivery

At arenaflex, we are redefining how millions of customers receive products every day. Our mission is to build a resilient, cost‑effective, and ultra‑responsive supply chain that can handle everything from everyday household items to perishable goods. By combining deep industry expertise with cutting‑edge data science, we solve the most complex logistical challenges at scale. As a member of the arenaflex CENTROID Data Science team, you will work alongside world‑class researchers, consultants, and technologists who have collectively earned the prestigious INFORMS Franz Edelman Award for groundbreaking work in network optimization.

Why This Role Matters

The supply chain landscape is evolving faster than ever. Retailers are expected to deliver a vast assortment of products at the lowest possible cost while maintaining speed and reliability. arenaflex is at the forefront of this transformation, leveraging advanced analytics, machine learning, and optimization to design next‑generation delivery networks. As a Remote Data Science & Optimization Specialist, you will directly influence strategic decisions that affect millions of shipments, billions of dollars in revenue, and the everyday lives of customers worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deploy large‑scale optimization models that address core supply‑chain problems such as inbound network design, middle‑mile routing, last‑mile delivery, and returns management.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams—including operations, engineering, product, and senior leadership—to translate business objectives into quantitative models and actionable insights.
  • Lead end‑to‑end data pipelines: ingest raw data from disparate sources, clean and transform it, and feed it into statistical and machine‑learning models.
  • Implement and fine‑tune advanced machine‑learning algorithms (e.g., gradient‑boosted trees, deep neural networks, reinforcement learning) to predict demand, estimate travel times, and optimize inventory placement.
  • Evaluate and integrate state‑of‑the‑art solvers such as CPLEX, Gurobi, and open‑source alternatives, ensuring robust performance on both deterministic and stochastic problem instances.
  • Produce clear, compelling visualizations and reports that communicate complex analytical results to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior data scientists and analysts, fostering a culture of continuous learning and rigorous scientific inquiry.
  • Stay abreast of emerging research in operations research, statistics, and AI, and proactively apply relevant breakthroughs to real‑world supply‑chain challenges.
  • Contribute to peer‑reviewed publications and industry conferences, reinforcing arenaflex's reputation as a thought leader.

Essential Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or M.S. in a quantitative discipline such as Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Up to ten years of professional experience applying quantitative methods to large‑scale operational problems.
  • Demonstrated expertise in mathematical programming (linear, mixed‑integer, non‑linear) and stochastic optimization techniques.
  • Proficiency with optimization libraries and solvers (e.g., CPLEX, Gurobi, XPress‑MP, or open‑source alternatives).
  • Strong software development skills in Python, including experience with data‑science libraries such as scikit‑learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Keras.
  • Solid SQL querying abilities and familiarity with data‑warehouse technologies.
  • Excellent communication skills—able to articulate technical findings to executives, product managers, and operational teams alike.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced, remote environment with geographically dispersed teammates.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Track record as a full‑stack data scientist who builds, validates, and scales models for production use in complex operational settings.
  • Deep knowledge of both optimization modeling (LP, MIP, NLP) and advanced statistical/machine‑learning methods (SVM, Random Forest, Bayesian inference, graph models, NLP, computer vision, deep neural networks).
  • Hands‑on experience solving large‑scale inventory and routing problems using heuristics, integer programming, and simulation‑based approaches.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Google Cloud Platform, Azure) and big‑data processing frameworks such as Spark, Hive, and distributed TensorFlow.
  • A strong publication record in peer‑reviewed journals or conferences, demonstrating thought leadership in operations research or AI.
  • Experience leading cross‑functional projects that deliver measurable business impact.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Analytical Rigor: Ability to formulate real‑world problems as mathematical models and rigorously test assumptions.
  • Programming Excellence: Clean, maintainable code in Python; familiarity with version control (Git) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Statistical Insight: Proficiency in hypothesis testing, experimental design, and causal inference.
  • Machine Learning Mastery: Experience with both supervised and unsupervised learning, model interpretability, and deployment at scale.
  • Business Acumen: Understanding of retail logistics, cost structures, and key performance indicators (KPIs) such as service level, fill rate, and total cost of ownership.
  • Communication & Storytelling: Ability to craft narratives that translate data‑driven insights into strategic recommendations.
  • Collaboration: Comfortable partnering with engineers, product owners, and senior leadership across time zones.
  • Adaptability: Thrive in a remote, fast‑changing environment while maintaining high quality and meeting deadlines.

Career Growth & Learning Opportunities

At arenaflex, your career trajectory is shaped by the impact you create. You will have access to:

  • Mentorship from award‑winning researchers and senior leaders in supply‑chain analytics.
  • Funding for conferences, workshops, and advanced certifications (e.g., INFORMS, IEEE, AWS, GCP).
  • Opportunities to lead high‑visibility projects that directly influence global logistics strategy.
  • Cross‑functional rotations that broaden your expertise across operations, engineering, and product management.
  • A clear promotion pathway from specialist to senior scientist, principal researcher, and eventually director‑level roles.

  • Retirement Savings: 401(k) plan with company match to help you build long‑term wealth.
  • Health & Wellness: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage; flexible spending accounts; and multiple wellness programs.
  • Family Support: Paid parental and maternity leave, adoption assistance, and child‑care resources.
  • Paid Time Off: Generous vacation policy plus company‑wide holidays.
  • Learning & Development: Access to online learning platforms, conference attendance, and internal hackathons.
  • Technology Stipend: Home‑office equipment allowance and high‑speed internet reimbursement.
  • Employee Stock Purchase Plan: Opportunity to purchase arenaflex shares at a discounted rate.
