Position Overview

We are hiring an Experienced Remote Data Engineering Specialist – Business Intelligence & Big Data Analytics to join our Accounting BI division. In this role, you will design and implement robust data pipelines, build large-scale analytics solutions, and partner with stakeholders across engineering, finance, and product teams to answer some of the most complex business questions in the industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with internal stakeholders, finance partners, and cross-functional engineering teams to identify, scope, and design the most appropriate data architectures and technologies for analyzing large-scale customer and business behavioral questions.
• Partner closely with associate engineering groups to enhance data infrastructure, expand data availability, and broaden secure access to client insights delivered through enterprise-wide BI tools.
• Design, build, and implement efficient ETL processes and data pipelines using AWS services and complementary cloud technologies.
• Implement anomaly detection systems and proactive data quality frameworks to identify, monitor, and resolve potential data issues before they impact the business.
• Enable large-scale analytics by leveraging EMR, Hadoop, Spark, and other distributed big data technologies to process millions of records efficiently.
• Establish, document, and enforce engineering best practices, coding standards, and data governance principles that should be followed across the organization.
• Develop proof-of-concepts (POCs) for evaluating and adopting emerging technologies, tools, and frameworks that can elevate the data platform.
• Mentor junior engineers, perform code reviews, and contribute to architectural discussions that influence long-term technology strategy.
• Champion a data-first mindset by identifying opportunities to automate manual reporting, streamline workflows, and reduce time-to-insight for finance and accounting teams.

Essential Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Accounting, Finance, or a related technical discipline.
• 3+ years of professional experience in data engineering, data development, or a closely related role.
• Hands-on experience with data modeling, data warehousing concepts, and building production-grade ETL pipelines.
• Strong proficiency in SQL and at least one additional query language such as PL/SQL, DDL, MDX, HiveQL, SparkSQL, or Scala.
• Working knowledge of one or more scripting languages, preferably Python or KornShell.
• Solid understanding of relational and non-relational database systems, data structures, and performance optimization techniques.
• Demonstrated ability to work with stakeholders, translate business requirements into technical solutions, and communicate findings clearly.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Hive, Spark, EMR, or equivalent distributed computing frameworks.
• Familiarity with large-scale data processing architectures, data warehouse technical design, infrastructure components, ETL tooling, and reporting/analytic environments.
• Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS preferred), infrastructure-as-code, and DevOps practices for data pipelines.
• Background in finance, accounting systems, or working with financial datasets is a strong plus.
• Experience implementing machine learning models for anomaly detection, forecasting, or classification tasks.
• Track record of contributing to open-source projects, publishing technical content, or speaking at industry conferences.
