Every opportunity to grow, lead, and make an impact is within reach here, and we believe that when our employees thrive, our customers do too.

The Opportunity

arenaflex is seeking a compassionate, clinically experienced, and highly motivated Customer Care Nurse to join our dynamic remote team. In this pivotal role, you will serve as the first clinical touchpoint for injured claimants, guiding them through the intake process for Short-Term Disability (STD) and Long-Term Disability (LTD) claims. If you are a licensed nurse with a passion for patient advocacy, exceptional communication, and clinical assessment, this is your opportunity to combine your medical expertise with purpose-driven work—all from the comfort of your home.

This position is ideal for nurses who excel in fast-paced environments, enjoy telephone-based clinical interactions, and want to leverage their knowledge to support claimants during critical junctures in their recovery journey. As a Customer Care Nurse at arenaflex, you will handle approximately 35–40 calls per day, conducting structured 15-minute intake conversations that lay the foundation for accurate, timely, and compassionate claim outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

As a Customer Care Nurse at arenaflex, you will be entrusted with a wide range of clinical and administrative duties, including but not limited to:

  • Claimant Education and Onboarding: Clearly explain the intake process and outline subsequent claims process expectations to claimants, ensuring they feel informed, supported, and confident from the very first interaction.
  • Clinical Assessment and Documentation: Effectively assess, evaluate, and document each claimant's medical information to initiate the claim process, while simultaneously reviewing any functional limitations or work accommodations that may impact recovery and return-to-work plans.
  • Return-to-Work Coordination: Gather medically diagnosed restrictions and limitations from claimants and their healthcare providers to inform realistic and supportive return-to-work expectations.
  • Medical Complexity Evaluation: Determine the appropriate medical complexity level for each claim and assign accurate duration parameters or medical milestones that guide downstream case management activities.
  • Accurate Data Entry: Precisely enter employee, employer, and physician intake information into arenaflex's proprietary claim technology platform, ensuring all clinical impressions are thoroughly tracked and accessible to Claims Ability Analysts who facilitate final claim decisions based on each claimant's functional condition.
  • Effective Communication of Medical Information: Translate complex medical terminology and clinical concepts into clear, simple, and concise language that claimants can easily understand, demonstrating empathy and professionalism at all times.
  • Sound Clinical Judgment: Apply your clinical knowledge and assessment skills within a time-sensitive intake framework, ensuring that each claim is initiated with the highest standards of medical accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Empathy and Compassion in Practice: Model empathy, patience, and active listening throughout every claimant interaction, recognizing that each call represents a person navigating a difficult life event.

Essential Qualifications

To succeed in this role, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Active Nursing License: An active LPN/LVN license is required; RN license holders will also be considered and are encouraged to apply.
  • Clinical Experience: A minimum of 12 months of practicing clinical experience with a broad-spectrum understanding of anatomy, physiology, and general medical conditions.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey medical information in a compassionate and easily understood manner.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong keyboarding and automation skills, with working proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Time Zone Preference: Candidates located in the West or Central time zones are preferred, as this supports operational coverage and team collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following experiences and attributes will help candidates stand out:

  • Prior experience in Clinical Case Management, particularly within disability, workers' compensation, or insurance settings.
  • Familiarity with Short-Term Disability (STD) and Long-Term Disability (LTD) claims processes.
  • Experience working in a remote or telephonic clinical environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage high call volumes while maintaining accuracy and empathy.
  • Comfort with technology platforms, electronic health records, and claims management systems.

  • Adaptability: Comfort working in a fast-paced, evolving environment where priorities may shift throughout the day.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous documentation and data entry skills to ensure accuracy in every claim file.
  • Time Management: The ability to manage 35–40 daily calls efficiently while maintaining quality and thoroughness.
  • Problem-Solving: Resourcefulness in navigating complex medical and situational conversations.
  • Team Collaboration: A spirit of cooperation and shared accountability, even while working remotely.
