As a forward‑thinking organization, arenaflex invests heavily in artificial intelligence, machine‑learning, and advanced analytics to transform how pharmacy services are delivered across more than 9,700 retail locations worldwide.

Why This Role Matters

In an era where data is the new vital sign, the Lead Director – Data Science & Patient Safety Analytics will be the strategic engine behind arenaflex’s mission to safeguard patient health through intelligent, data‑driven interventions. This role sits at the intersection of clinical insight, AI innovation, and operational excellence, guiding a high‑performing team of data scientists and analysts to turn raw data into actionable safety solutions that protect patients at every touchpoint.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Senior Vice President – Patient Safety & Pharmacy Operations, the Lead Director will shape arenaflex’s patient safety analytics strategy, design and deploy AI/ML models, and champion a culture of continuous improvement across the retail pharmacy network. The role is fully remote, offering flexibility while maintaining close collaboration with cross‑functional partners, senior leadership, and on‑site pharmacy teams.

Core Mission

  • Develop and operationalize AI‑powered safety analytics that proactively identify, prioritize, and mitigate patient safety risks.
  • Lead a multidisciplinary team of data scientists, analysts, and engineers to deliver high‑impact solutions at scale.
  • Partner with business leaders to translate complex data insights into clear, actionable recommendations for pharmacy operations.
  • Drive a data‑centric culture that values rigorous experimentation, ethical AI, and compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Define the vision, roadmap, and governance for patient safety analytics across the entire arenaflex pharmacy ecosystem.
  • AI/ML Innovation: Lead the design, development, and validation of machine‑learning models that detect adverse events, medication errors, and other safety signals in real time.
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Work closely with pharmacy operations, clinical teams, IT, compliance, and senior executives to align analytics initiatives with business priorities.
  • Data Architecture & Governance: Oversee the ingestion, transformation, and storage of large‑scale pharmacy data, ensuring data quality, security, and privacy.
  • Insight Communication: Translate technical findings into compelling narratives, dashboards, and executive briefings that drive decision‑making.
  • Team Development: Recruit, mentor, and grow a world‑class analytics team; create individualized learning paths and foster a culture of curiosity and accountability.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all analytics activities adhere to HIPAA, GDPR, and internal data‑privacy policies, especially when handling protected health information (PHI).
  • Performance Measurement: Establish KPIs and success metrics for safety initiatives, continuously monitoring impact and iterating on solutions.
  • Thought Leadership: Represent arenaflex at industry conferences, publish whitepapers, and stay ahead of emerging trends in health analytics and AI ethics.

Essential Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 years of progressive leadership experience in data science, analytics, or a related field, with a proven track record of building and scaling high‑performing teams.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, or a related STEM discipline; a Master’s or Ph.D. is strongly preferred.
  • Deep expertise in SQL, Python, and statistical analysis tools (e.g., R, SAS) with a solid foundation in machine‑learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex business problems into analytical solutions, including defining objectives, assessing risk, and measuring ROI.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of influencing senior stakeholders and presenting technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.
  • Experience working with large‑scale healthcare data, including familiarity with HIPAA regulations and patient‑safety standards.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, remote environment while maintaining high levels of productivity and collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Data Science, Machine Learning, Bioinformatics, or a related field.
  • Hands‑on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and modern data pipelines (e.g., Apache Spark, Kafka).
  • Expertise in deploying AI models in production environments, including model monitoring, drift detection, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Knowledge of natural language processing (NLP) techniques for extracting insights from clinical notes and patient feedback.
  • Experience leading projects that involve real‑time analytics and streaming data architectures.

  • Strong project management capabilities, with the ability to juggle multiple initiatives, prioritize effectively, and meet tight deadlines.
