Key Responsibilities
Develop and own the overall narrative design for game projects, including plot, characters, world-building, lore, and thematic arcs. Write high-quality dialogue, in-game text, cinematics scripts, and other narrative content. Collaborate closely with game designers to integrate narrative seamlessly into gameplay mechanics and systems. Work with artists and animators to ensure visual elements align with the established narrative and character designs. Create and maintain detailed narrative design documents, including outlines, character bios, plot summaries, and lore bibles. Provide narrative direction and feedback to other writers and external writing partners. Ensure consistency in tone, voice, and lore across all narrative elements. Brainstorm and generate creative ideas for story progression, character development, and player engagement. Champion the narrative vision of the game and advocate for its importance throughout the development process. Participate in playtesting and utilize feedback to refine narrative elements.
Requirements
Minimum of 5 years of experience in game narrative design or related writing roles within the video game industry. Proven track record of contributing significantly to the narrative of released commercial titles, preferably AAA or high-profile indie games. Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with a strong portfolio of narrative work. Deep understanding of narrative structures, character archetypes, and dramatic writing principles. Experience with game engines (e.g., Unreal Engine, Unity) and scripting or visual scripting tools for narrative implementation. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote work setting. Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. Experience with narrative design tools or software is a plus. Bachelor's degree in English, Creative Writing, Game Design, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. Passion for games and a strong understanding of player motivation and engagement.
