Remote Senior Concept Artist (Environment)
About the Role
Our client, a critically acclaimed independent game studio known for its unique art direction and narrative-driven experiences, is seeking a talented and experienced Senior Concept Artist specializing in environments to join their fully remote team. This position is ideal for an artist who thrives on creating imaginative and visually compelling worlds from concept to completion. You will be instrumental in establishing the aesthetic foundation for our upcoming projects, working closely with the art director and game design team to translate ideas into stunning visual representations. Key Responsibilities
Conceptualize and design highly detailed and imaginative game environments, including landscapes, architecture, and props. Create mood boards, sketches, and polished concept art to define the visual style and atmosphere of game worlds. Collaborate effectively with the Art Director, game designers, and 3D artists to ensure concepts align with project goals and technical constraints. Iterate on designs based on feedback from the team and iterate rapidly to explore various visual possibilities. Develop style guides and detailed call-outs for 3D modelers and environment artists. Maintain a high level of artistic quality and consistency throughout the production cycle. Research visual references and emerging trends in environment design and concept art. Communicate ideas clearly and concisely through visual mediums. Actively participate in remote team meetings and discussions, contributing to a positive and collaborative virtual studio culture. Mentor junior concept artists and provide constructive feedback on their work.
Requirements
Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in concept art for video games, with a strong focus on environment design. A strong portfolio showcasing exceptional environment concept art, demonstrating artistic skill, creativity, and a keen eye for detail and composition. Proficiency in digital painting software such as Adobe Photoshop. Solid understanding of perspective, form, lighting, color theory, and composition. Ability to create both loose sketches and highly rendered environmental concepts. Experience working within a game development pipeline and collaborating with 3D artists. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to articulate visual ideas clearly in a remote setting. Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage time effectively to meet deadlines. Familiarity with 3D concepts or tools (e.g., Blender, ZBrush, SketchUp) is a plus. Passion for video games and a deep understanding of various art styles and genres.
