About the Statistics Analyst I Role at arenaflex

The Statistics Analyst I is a critical part-time role within arenaflex's Details and Analytics team inside our broader Information and Data Collection organization. Scores, schedules, standings, rosters, and in-game statistics across arenaflex's television graphics, digital properties, fantasy platforms, live game experiences, and feature presentations are produced and maintained by this team. As a Statistics Analyst I, you will safeguard the accuracy of this information, ensuring that fans and stakeholders around the world receive precise, timely, and insightful sports data every single day.

Beyond number-crunching, Statistics Analysts are storytellers. They help transform statistics into storylines — recognizing the statistical events that explain why a team won, why a player is having a career year, or why an upset is unfolding in real time. Candidates with specialized training in mathematics, economics, databases, or SQL programming will find unique opportunities to apply their skills to data initiatives and storytelling at arenaflex.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure sports data distributed by Details and Data is accurate, timely, and insightful across all arenaflex platforms and productions.
  • Work both independently and collaboratively to deliver precise play-by-play, clock-and-score updates, and key statistics in real time that power arenaflex's digital products and television broadcasts.
  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of how Details and Data fuels arenaflex's digital products and television productions, contributing ideas that improve workflow and output quality.
  • Verify the results of your own work and the work of teammates, consistently demonstrating high attention to detail and a commitment to error-free production.
  • Contribute to production, operational, and strategic initiatives across the newsroom, and support leaders who coordinate both full-time and part-time staff.
  • Anticipate potential issues — both daily and long-term — and propose thoughtful solutions, communicating clearly and confidently with colleagues.
  • Play a proactive role in partnering with teammates to develop and refine production processes, tools, and standards.
  • Be an active, engaged participant in team and department meetings, sharing insights and feedback openly.
  • Seek out and respond constructively to feedback regarding personal performance and growth.
  • Stay current on office policies, procedures, and production standards to ensure compliance and consistency.

Essential Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of teams, players, and the rules of major sports.
  • Full schedule availability, which will include evenings (exclusively), weekends, and holidays — this is a late-shift and event-driven role.
  • Ability to quickly learn production processes that generate and maintain sports data powering arenaflex's digital and television products.
  • Capacity to achieve a high level of content accuracy in time-sensitive production environments.
  • Strong communication skills — both verbal and written — with the ability to convey production issues and opportunities confidently to editors and peers, even in a fast-paced, high-volume newsroom setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One or more years of experience working in sports and/or statistics, ideally within a media or broadcasting environment.
  • Familiarity with how sports data is used in media, journalism, and research applications.
  • Working knowledge of arenaflex products, platforms, and productions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools.
  • Experience leading, training, or mentoring a team.
  • Fluency in Spanish — both written and spoken — is a strong plus.
  • Experience using social media in a professional business or news environment.

Education Requirements

  • Required Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent higher education credential.

Additional Information

This position fills in exclusively for late shifts, weekends, and holidays. Candidates should be comfortable working non-traditional hours aligned with the live sports calendar, including major events, primetime matchups, and seasonal tentpoles. A quiet, dedicated home workspace, reliable high-speed internet, and the ability to focus during high-pressure live moments are essential for success in this remote role.

Skills and Competencies for Success

Successful Statistics Analysts at arenaflex bring a unique blend of analytical rigor and sports intuition. We look for candidates who are:

  • Detail-Obsessed: You notice the small things others miss — a missed stat correction, a wrong jersey number, an outdated roster — and you fix them before anyone else sees.
  • Fast and Decisive: You thrive under deadline pressure, make smart decisions with incomplete information, and adapt quickly when games shift in an instant.
  • Curious Learners: You actively build your knowledge of sports, statistics, production tools, and arenaflex workflows.
  • Collaborative Communicators: You give and receive feedback well, contribute in team settings, and build strong working relationships with editors, producers, and fellow analysts.
  • Technically Capable: You are comfortable learning new software, working with data feeds, and ideally have exposure to SQL, databases, or statistical tools.
  • Narrative Thinkers: You see patterns in numbers and can articulate why a stat matters in the broader story of a game or season.
